Anti-Entrapment Device. When the water suction inlet is covered, the system cuts out. Southwark Plumbers are familiar with this device.Back-siphoning or back flow.Siphonic-action causing the air gap to be bridged between the clean mains water, either in the main supply or after it has been stored, and used (grey) water from the shower tray, toilet bowl, bidet or even the bath. The grey water may be carrying bacteria or material that will encourage the growth of bacteria and come contaminate the clean water supply to the house, or even to the neighbourhood.Back to Wall WC.A WC with integral sides to conceal the trap. Usually used with a cistern hidden behind the wall, panelling or fitted furniture.Centrifugal.A type of pump, which draws water in through the eye or centre of the impeller, forcing it out to the external edges of the pump by centrifugal force. Water is then discharged vertically.Ceramic Discs.Hard wearing ceramic discs created positive on/off control unless ports are aligned. Popular due to low maintenance and easy quarter or half turn operation. A Southwark Plumber can fit discs.Compression fitting.A nut and olive that compresses around copper pipes when tightened to create a watertight seal.Instant Showers. The instant electric or gas showers heat water directly from the mains to give hot water on demand, ideal for frequent use. They are economic to buy and to run but they do not give the flow rate of a mixer shower or a pumped shower. The flow rate of an instantaneous shower is dependent on the temperature of the mains water supply.Flushing valve. Mechanical device used to clear the water out of the cistern on a toilet. Relatively new in the UK, valves are operated by a pushbutton or electronic sensor. Flushing takes place when a seal over the outlet hole is lifted, allowing the water in the cistern to be evacuated into the WC pan, where it’s flush action clears the contents into the soil pipe.
